something a little more plain, maybe something a little more sane [HAVEN AU]

The stopover in Haven was just for gas and lunch, but by the time she was done with her meal at the Grey Gull, Anne was more than a little enchanted with the small town by the water. It was so picturesque, and the land was so quiet and serene...

This was supposed to be a hunting trip, but she was already thinking about stuff for the magazine.

Lingering over the remnants of her meal, Anne stretched a little in her seat and looked around, arms overhead as she surveyed the dining area. The funny looks she'd gotten when she came into town were amusing--mainly because she was still in her travel wear, designer jeans and a sleek white tank top beneath a pink ski jacket. Her boots even had heels, and when she'd made a couple inquiries about hunting in the forested areas the smiles had been enough to make her giggle.

To hell with Lewiston--she was staying right here for the remainder of her vacation.

Rather than wait for the waitress to come by to give her the check, Anne stood up from her table, picked up the wine glass she'd been sipping throughout her lunch, and walked over to the bar--at least this way, she could ask about a hotel without the poor waitress staining her jeans when she spilled Anne's merlot.

"Excuse me?" she singsonged to the bartender--a tall guy with deliciously long hair and a bitable jawline. "Um, a couple things: first, could you recommend a hotel in the area that'll take a last minute booking? Also, in about five minutes, don't give the poor police officer a hard time. He's having a fight with his girlfriend and he's miserable. Tall, brown hair, blue eyes--can't miss him."

A tourist coming into town wasn't anything unusual, although Duke definitely noticed the blonde who walked in during the lunch shift as he minded the bar. His gaze wasn't too far off of her, she was more than pretty enough to captivate, and he arched an eyebrow when she spoke to him.

"Sure thing," he said with a smile. "The Over the Way B&B might have a room open, or you could try the Altair Bay Inn," He grabbed the small local phone book from behind the bar and thumbed through to the correct page, which he opened and proffered to the pretty customer. "If they're full there might be something on Airbnb. Planning on sticking around?"

The second thing she said was just as intriguing as the first, and he glanced toward the patio where Nathan was sipping on a cup of coffee. "Wuornos? How do you know?"
